First Emirati Astronaut Goes Into Space for 10 Days in April 2019

This following an announcement made earlier by Sheikh Mohammed on the space mission.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre has issued a statement taken by Dubai Media Office regarding the date of the first Emirati astronaut's space flight.

"The first Emirati astronaut's space flight will be for 10 days to launch in April of 2019 on the Soyouz MS-12 Russian spacecraft, to land on the International Space Station.

"The return flight will be made on the Soyouz MS-12 spacecraft. The first Emirati astronaut's training will begin next month."

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a statement on his official twitter account regarding the UAE's progress on sending its first Emirati astronaut to space on Wednesday.

"The UAE signed a historic agreement to send its first Emirati astronaut to the International Space Station in the next few months.

"The son of the Emirates will bring to fruition the vision which began 12 years ago in developing the national space sector.

"The UAE's vision is also nearing completion by making the Mars probe, making the first local satellite manufacturing complex, training Emirati astronauts, and by taking ownership of an integrated scientific, research system.

"In 2021, we will celebrate the UAE's 50th anniversary, and thus we will gift the coming generations our legacy so that their dreams begin in the sky.    

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, also commented on his twitter handle, lauding the historic agreement which will launch Emirati astronauts to space after signing an agreement with Russia on the matter.
