Two people were killed and four injured in an incident Sunday during a sightseeing boat tour near Raouche’s Pigeon Rocks, the Lebanese Red Cross reported. The two people were killed when their tour boat capsized just off the coast, the Red Cross said, adding that another person was still missing.

However, conflicting reports on the incident emerged Sunday evening. The state-run National News Agency said the victims had fallen from the rocks on Beirut’s seafront.

The victims are reportedly Iranian tourists – a mother, father, their adult son and three daughters – who were pushed into the water while taking a picture on rocks that sit below a railed-off walkway overlooking the Pigeon Rocks, the NNA reported.

A fisherman was able to rescue the parents and one of the daughters, while a Lebanese Civil Defense unit worked to remove the bodies of the two other daughters, aged 15 and nine. Civil Defense rescuers were still working Sunday night to find the missing son, aged 23.

A Red Cross source confirmed two people were killed and four injured, but could not give details of how the accident had happened.

The Civil Defense said they had transported two injured people to the Fouad Khoury hospital in Hamra and another to the Makassed General Hospital.
