A hotel used by government troops as a military base has been destroyed by an explosion Thursday, Associated Press reports. The massive explosion happened near Aleppo and damaged several other buildings in the area.

According to activists on the ground, rebels belonging to the Islamic Front planted a bomb underneath the hotel via a tunnel and detonated it remotely.

The hotel was completely destroyed and casualties were reported, according to AP.

The Syrian opposition is currently battling Assad’s forces for control of Aleppo, the country’s largest city. Syria has been embroiled in a civil war since 2011 that has killed over 150,000 and displaced millions.
