XPress Telecommunications has officially launched its digital radio trunking and mobile services in Jordan, making the Kingdom the first Arab country to deploy fully integrated wireless communication services based on Motorola’s Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) technology.
In addition to regular mobile telephony, SMS, and data services, the company offers subscribers the ability to instantly communicate with a single individual (one-to-one) or with a group (one-to-many) through the push of a button, through an integrated, digital “walkietalkie”.
The company is a joint venture between Jordanian and Saudi Arabian investors and has equity of US$30 million. In addition, XPress secured US$49.4 million in financial facilities from the Export and Import Bank of the United States.
The Jordan Fund, a $50 million private equity investment fund established by Deutsche Bank, Atlas Investment Group and Foursan Group, is a co-founder and principal investor in the company and serves on its Board of Directors.
XPress CEO Suleiman Maani said the company would provide enhanced services to institutional clients, including corporations, public security organizations, and other entities that require instant group communications.
“The new service brings a business solution with the ability to hold a conference with a large group of people ranging from three to more than 100, eliminating time-wasting and costly individual calls,” Maani said.
There are currently 16.5 million subscribers and 18 operators on iDEN networks around the globe, including the US, Canada, several nations in South and Central America, and Japan. The service is expected to be launched in the near future in Saudi Arabia. (menareport.com)
