ALBAWABA – Apple is expected to reveal its highly anticipated iOS 18 in 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference at upcoming June, which is believed to bring major updates to the iPhone, with some models, according to the New York Post, not making the cut.
The next release of the iPhone operating system is thought to be “relatively groundbreaking,” according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who added that it could be Apple’s “biggest” upgrade to the iPhone so far.
As the upcoming iOS 18 update will bring a slew of AI features, it requires Apple’s A12 Bionic chip, which is embedded in iPhones released after the iPhone 8 line-up, meaning any devices released after will not be able to receive the grand update.
On February, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated Apple is spending "tremendous amount of time and effort" on artificial intelligence and would reveal its results "later this year," with MacRumors reporting that Apple is committing over $1 billion annually in AI research and the technology required to operate complex language models.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s SVP of Marketing, also commenting on X (formerly Twitter) about the WWDC 2024 event, saying it would be "Absolutely Incredible", with the capitals spelling AI, as well as a marketing video of the event’s name written in Siri’s color theme, hinting at updates to the digital assistant.
iOS 18’s anticipated features, according to MacRumors, also include a more customizable Home Screen, an option to create custom routes on Apple Maps, adoption of Rich Communication Services, which would allow for better texting experience with Android, as well as a hearing aid mode with Airpods 2, among more.
