Successful people. A phrase that is not self-explanatory but sure has a nice ring to it. I don’t have the secret recipe for success, no one does but everyone is trying. Success doesn’t come without persistence and hard work but also without a well-balanced life. And what time is best for balancing your life than the weekends?

Here’s a list of things people striving for success do every weekend:

They read books

Reading a book can take your mind away of everything else. It doesn’t have to be very informative although you can read such books but it can also be a best-seller novel or a classic depending on your taste. Reading relaxes you but stick to paper books; they comfortable for your eyes and give you a soothing feeling when you turn the pages with your fingers.

They turn off their phone

The Spanish have their siestas, you should have your time away from everything. Disconnect by turning off your phone and lie down with a book, watch a movie, take a swim, take a nap or do anything that relaxes you for a couple of hours at least. Recharge YOUR batteries this time.

They plan events

The problem with weekends is that they come and go quickly. Write down a wish-list of the things you want to do on your weekend without details, so leave the time and duration out. No one wants to plan on weekends but unless you have a list of things to do your long-anticipated weekends could go to waste.

They get up early

Another thing we don’t like to do on weekends, waking up early. But getting up before everyone else does will give you the time and space to do things for yourself. Go for a run, do your nails, blog, have coffee with friends or do anything that pleases you because let’s face it, the moment your family is up, it’s no longer about you alone.

They create family-time memories

Weekends are probably the only times during which you can and should plan family activities. Make it a point to have one family activity that you do together every weekend. Spending quality family time increases your happiness which should boost your productivity come Sunday morning. Plus, you will be creating wonderful memories with your family.

In the eyes of your loved ones, you are the most successful one. Don’t neglect yourself or your family on weekends, because although being good to yourself and your family doesn’t directly contribute to career success, it certainly balances and fulfills you, which will reflect on your attitude and productivity at work.
