Spotify has recently launched its video channel, which will allow users to watch videos from popular channels on the Spotify app for iOS and Android.

The video channel will have content from ESPN, Comedy Central, MTV, BBC, Vice News, Slate, and others. On both the iOS and Android versions of the app, users can access videos by tapping the Browse section and choosing Shows. Below the featured row, the user will have two choices, either video shows or audio shows for podcasts.

The video channel is quite hidden, so Spotify users who prefer just music will not find this update coming in the way. However, the video inevitably winds up as part of the main navigation menu. Once the user picks a show, they can hit the follow button to add the content to the user’s library. The early selections included small snippets of things like he Daily Show, short SportsCenter clips, and others.

Spotify’s end goal will be to make money out of this, but it still brings up the question of how it will stand up against the likes of YouTube or the ESPN app.
