ALBAWABA - The United States increased the tariffs it imposed on Indian products and goods to 50 percent starting Wednesday, AFP reported.

The reason behind the decision is that US President Donald Trump wants to punish New Delhi for purchasing Russian oil.

Trump intends to pressure India to stop oil imports from Russia, in a war to place pressure on Moscow, which relies on New Delhi as a main source of income.

For Trump, if Moscow loses its money suppliers, that will push Vladimir Putin to stop the war in Ukraine and lead to the end of an over three-year conflict.

It is worth mentioning that Washington was India's top export destination last year, with shipments worth $87.3 billion.
