Civilian administrator in Iraq Paul Bremer has named former Polish Minister of Finance Marek Belka to replace Peter McPherson as Director for Economic Policy in the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA).
Belka will assume the position following a donor's conference in Madrid scheduled for October 23-24. Belka has been serving as chairman of the Council for International Coordination (CIC), which Bremer established in June to facilitate participation of the international community in relief, recovery and development efforts in Iraq.
Andrew Goledzinowski, who is the current vice-chair of CIC, will take over for Belka in the chairman's position. McPherson, a former administrator of the US Agency for International Development, will return to his position as president of Michigan State University.
Belka was former Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance to the Finance and Economics Ministry. He also served as Senior Advisor to JP Morgan for Central and Eastern Europe since November 2002. He has been a member of the Board of Directors for several companies as well as the Director of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation. From 1997 to 2001, he was advisor and consultant to the World Bank and IFC, the World Bank's International Finance Corporation, as well as Advisor to the Prime Minister of Albania. — (menareport.com)
