The State Department said Friday that the United States is considering imposing "targeted sanctions" on Sudan in light of "atrocities" committed by the Jingaweit Militia leaders, and is pressing the government of Sudan "to take immediate action to stop the Jingaweit."
The United States has already in place "significant sanctions" on Sudan, but is considering "targeted sanctions, such as visa restrictions and financial sanctions against individuals," the State Department added.
Based on reports from non-governmental organizations the following individuals are considered by the State Department as leaders of the Jingaweit: Musa Hilal, Jingaweit Coordinator; Hamid Dawai, Jingaweit leader; Abdullah abu Shineibat, Jingaweit leader; Omar Babbush, Jingaweit leader; Omada Saef, Jingaweit leader; Ahmad Dekheir, Jingaweit leader; Ahmed Abu Kamasha, Jingaweit leader.
