ALBAWABA - Morrisons Supermarkets, the fifth-largest supermarket chain in the United Kingdom, has replaced staff with robots amid ongoing developments in artificial intelligence (AI).

Morrisons Supermarkets now employs a staff of robots

The well-known supermarket chain now employs robots after replacing a large number of its human staff. These robots can be seen across branches nationwide, monitoring shelves and ensuring that products are properly stocked and in good condition.

According to the Daily Mail, Morrisons is now employing robots to perform crucial tasks in its operations, including roaming store aisles and monitoring shelves.

Tally robots

The retail company is primarily testing robots called “Tally” in three stores—Wetherby, Redcar, and Stockton—to monitor how products are displayed on shelves. Notably, Tally is the world’s first autonomous item-scanning robot, capable of tracking product locations, stock levels, and pricing.

The robots can efficiently scan nearly 30,000 items per hour with 99% accuracy. (www.simberobotics.com)

Tally robots were originally developed by Symbi Robotics, an American company experienced in artificial intelligence (AI) development. Symbi Robotics’ technology is now being used globally by major retailers, including Carrefour, Biggs, Albertsons, ShopRite, and Kroger.

On the other hand, nearly 365 employees risk losing their jobs due to the involvement of Tally robots in Morrisons stores across the country.

Tally robots were designed to accurately scan inventory in any retail environment, from standard fixtures and variable shelving units to refrigerators, freezers, and inventory checkouts. The robots are tall and slim, with friendly, approachable faces.

The robots can efficiently scan nearly 30,000 items per hour with 99% accuracy. If their battery runs low, Tally will automatically return to its charging station.
