The UK’s Halcrow Group has won the consultancy contract for Morocco’s Tangier-Atlantic Port project. The Group will work in cooperation with newly formed Tangier-Mediterranean Special Agency (TMSA).

The project was first launched in 1999 when France-based Buoygues was chosen to lead Infrastructure and Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) activities. Despite negotiations, the deal was never signed and the project eventually fell through. The port’s re-launch this past September created a new set of tenders.

The Tangier-Mediterranean port will be on the southern side of the Gibraltar straits, 35 kilometers east of Tangier. Moroccan authorities have already raised the estimated one billion dollar cost of the project.

In the Middle East, Halcrow provides transport, water, property, development, environmental and energy consultancy services across a geographic region extending from North Africa to Dubai. Halcrow has permanent offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Doha in Qatar and currently employs over 250 staff in the Middle East region. — (menareport.com)
