The Unired Arab Emirates has inked bilateral air transportation agreements with Brazil and Argentina, paving the way for Emirates to launch flights to South America.
Emirates launched its flights to North America with regular Dubai-New York flights on June 1. It is mulling expanding its network on both continents.
In line with the agreement, Brazil has granted 14 frequencies per week to Emirates, the first time it has done this for a foreign airline.
It also provides for intermediate stops between the UAE and Brazil. This is especially significant as there is no open skies policy in either Brazil or Argentina.
Argentina has agreed to five frequencies per week.
The agreement is the result of talks between Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva and Mohammed Yahya Al Suweidi, assistant undersecretary for Civil Aviation in the Ministry of Communications, and Mohammed Ahli, director of Operations for Dubai Civil Aviation. (menareport.com)
