ALBAWABA - In a surprising move, X, the parent company of Twitter, has decided to discontinue one of its features, 'Circles,' which bore a striking resemblance to a feature found on Instagram. According to an official statement from X, this feature will soon be phased out.
Circles, which allowed users to share their posts exclusively with a select group of people, was introduced by X in 2022. However, recent developments indicate that this feature will be deactivated in the near future, with a complete shutdown scheduled for October 31. X has already begun notifying users about this forthcoming change.
What's interesting is that Circles drew comparisons to Instagram's 'Close Friends' feature due to its similar functionality. Much like its Instagram counterpart, Circles enabled users to share their content with a specific, limited audience of their choosing.
However, in April, issues began to arise with the Circles feature. Users who had enabled Circles found that their posts were becoming visible to a wider audience, contrary to their intended settings. This mishap, along with other challenges, has led X to decide on the feature's discontinuation. Notably, any posts created using the Circles feature before its shutdown date will remain unaffected.
X has issued a statement regarding this change, stating, "After this date, you won't be able to create new limited posts in your Circle or add people to your Circle. However, you will still be able to remove people from your Circle."
