Turkmenistan looks to Pakistan as possible gas client

In the face of apparent reluctance by Turkey to sign a major gas import deal, Turkmenistan is apparently looking to Pakistan as an alternative. Pakistan’s government has according its prospective gas pipeline projects primary significance, and reportedly is looking to Iran, Qatar and Turkmenistan as possible sources of supply. 

 

Turkmenistan had earlier considered Turkey is its best alternative, but it facing delays and disputes on all its possible pipeline routes for delivering gas to Turkey. At the same time, Turkey is showing new signs that it will not need as much gas as predicted. 

 

Turkmenistan’s pipeline route to Pakistan is also fraught with uncertainty, because traverses Afghanistan, where the security situation remains precarious. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
