Turkey’s Lio Oil Industry and Trade recently announced plans to establish olive tree orchards in the provinces of Mugla and Balikesir. The new orchards, expected to bear fruit by 2005, will provide a boost the company’s olive oil sales, reported Milliyet .
Lio posted total revenues of $68 million last year, $56 million of which were generated from exports. Ranking among the top 100 industrial corporations of Turkey, Lio’s commercial activities hold over five percent of the total world olive oil market. The company’s production capacity reached 210 tons a day in 2001.
The company produces gold extra virgin, extra virgin, virgin olive oil, olive oil and refined olive oil and exports to Italy, Spain, the United States, Canada, Australia, Romania, South Africa and parts of the Far East. In addition to olive oil, Lio also produces sunflower and corn oil.
Established in 1980, Lio has the capacity to process and refine 150 tons of vegetable oils daily. The company’s production plant is located in the Izmir Organized Industrial Region and its sales and marketing department is based in Istanbul with regional departments in Ankara, Adana and Samsun. — (menareport.com)
