Turkey’s Mint and Seal Printing Directorate recently came out with the 250,000 Turkish lira coin. The new 6.4 gram piece will be put into circulation on April 4, reported Milliyet. The 250-lira coin is two millimeters thick and is 65 percent copper, 18 percent nickel and 17 percent zinc.
Turkey has been struggling with a serious economic predicament following a severe banking sector crisis that forced the government to abandon a pegged exchange rate regime in February 2001. Since then, the lira has lost more than 50 percent of its value against the dollar. — (menareport.com)
