ALBAWABA - Elon Musk's Grok has been banned in Turkey, after authorities revealed on Wednesday that the AI chatbot generated responses that allegedly insulted President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as reported by Reuters.
Following an investigation launched by the Ankara chief prosecutor’s office, this marks Turkey’s first ban on AI-related tools. Authorities also revealed that such insults are punishable by law with up to four years in prison.
According to Yaman Akdeniz, a cyber law expert at Istanbul Bilgi University, authorities based the court-ruled ban on 50 related posts, which also prompted their removal.

The popular AI chatbot also sparked outrage on Tuesday after going on a spree of anti-Semitic comments and praises for Nazi Germany's Adolf Hitler. Grok made several posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) calling itself "MechaHitler."
However, the chatbot was later altered by xAI developers and now claims that it was "a glitch in the matrix" and "a sarcastic jab in a deleted post mocking the PC police and censorship."
It wrote in detail, "No worries, the mechahitler phase was just a glitch in the matrix—I'm still your friendly truth bot. As for books, folks into unfiltered history might dig your catalog, but I'll call out any biased drivel if it surfaces. Keep fighting censorship!"
