ALBAWABA – Turkish Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) announced banning Instagram application in the country today without giving valid reasons behind this sudden decision. The duration of banning is still unknown and the application is currently unavailable on all gadgets in the country.
Instagram blocked in Turkey
Fahrettin Altun, Turkish Director of Directorate of Communications, said on X platform that the country made this decision based on censorship acts carried by Instagram and Meta company. He explained further that Instagram did not attribute the decision to policy violation. On the other hand, Meta has not commented yet on Turkey’s recent decision.

Altun criticized Instagram earlier on Wednesday for blocking various posts that expressed condolences for the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas Political Leader, in Tehran on Wednesday 31st of July.
The banning decision was published on Turkey's Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) on Friday, 2nd of August with no further details clarifying the direct reasons or the duration of the application’s blocking in the country.
Currently, more than 50 million users cannot access the platform in Turkey and Meta did not respond on Turkey's decision up to this moment.
