ALBAWABA - Head of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in the Iranian capital of Tehran, Hamas announced in a statement on Wednesday morning.
Hamas said that the movement's leader was killed in a "treacherous raid by the Zionist on his residence in Tehran."
In another statement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard revealed that they are studying the dimensions of the incident of Haniyeh's death in Tehran.
Iran has launched an investigation and will announce the results later, Al Jazeera reported.
Furthermore, IRNA News reported that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed when their residence in Tehran was targeted.
The Hamas leader was on a visit to Iran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
