Turkey’s monthly industrial production index decreased by 4.5 percent this past February. Mining industry production decreased by 0.4 percent and electricity, gas and water production decreased by 6.3 percent, compared to figures from 2001, according to information released by the State Institute of Statistics.
In December 2001, Turkey launched a series of measures to help speed up a recovery in the country's industrial and commercial sectors, badly hit by a severe economic crisis that has plagued the country since February. The package aimed primarily to facilitate loan repayments for troubled companies, ease tax burdens and make investment incentives more efficient. — (menareport.com)
