Germany’s Siemens Information and Communication Networks (IC Networks) has received an order from the state-owned carrier Tunisie Telecom (TT) to supply and start up 23 access networks. The new networks will enable the TT's customers in all the country's industrial regions to use flexible communication services from ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) to DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) broadband connections. IC Networks holds the second position worldwide within the broadband sector.

"We decided to attribute the project to Siemens after an international tender. Furthermore, the project of setting up the telecommunication network for last year’s Mediterranean games was an excellent experience for both of us and a good reference in particular for Siemens in Tunisia," said TT Director General Khedija Hammouda Ghariani. The new network is scheduled to start operation later this year.

The contract concluded between TT and IC Networks is to equip 23 access networks with Attane-FastLink technology. It also includes supplying 19 OLTs (Optical Line Termination) and 61 ONUs (Optical Network Unit), including SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) transmission technology, and eight Attane Access Integrator systems for managing the networks.

This will enable the Tunisian telecommunications company to make complete service packages available to its customers in the country's large industrial areas. These packages can comprise, for instance, an ISDN line, PBX (Private branch exchange) interconnection, and broadband internet access based on ADSL (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line).

Siemens IC Networks is a provider of network technology for enterprises, carriers and service providers. In fiscal 2001, which ended September 30, IC Networks employed 51,000 people worldwide and posted sales of 12.9 billion euro. — (menareport.com)
