TNT Express has announced a partnership agreement with Baghdad's courier company IKE Express, to provide delivery services to and from Iraq.
TNT Express is the first international express company to link up with an Iraqi national operator since the lifting of UN sanctions and the partnership will provide more reliable services for customers in the region.
"This will help bring vital supplies to the people of Iraq as the country strives to get back to normal," said TNT/SAB Express General Manager Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states Mark Pell. "Initially a great deal of consignments are coming from here in the Kingdom and elsewhere throughout the GCC," Pell said.
A new daily TNT Express road service from across the border in Amman, Jordan is now carrying documents, parcels and air-freight into Baghdad with operations expected to extend to Basra as well as other Iraqi cities in the next few months.
Initially the majority of consignments sent to Iraq are expected to originate in the Middle East with shipments being carried by TNT Express mainly for non-governmental organizations and oil companies.
Based in the Netherlands, TNT Express delivers 3.6 million parcels, documents and pieces of freight a week to over 200 countries using its network of 891 depots, hubs and sortation centers. TNT Express operates more than 20,000 road vehicles and 43 aircraft and has the biggest door-to-door air and road express delivery infrastructure in Europe. — (menareport.com)
