The Abu Dhabi-based Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company will introduce its satellite service to East and South East Asia, a measure that will considerably expand Thuraya's growth opportunities into new market segments.

The newly added coverage will include China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Japan, Burma, Myanmar, Lao Democratic People's Republic, Mongolia, the Koreas, Papua New Guinea, Brunei and parts of the Russian Federation that were previously not included in Thuraya's initial coverage area.

Thuraya provides mobile voice and data communication services to a region populated by some 2.3 billion people, serving more than 100 countries in Europe, the Middle East, North and Central Africa, the CIS countries and South Asia. Thuraya's second satellite, the Thuraya 2, was deployed into transfer orbit on June 10, 2003. — (menareport.com)
