International travel group Thomas Cook Egypt has reduced its telecommunications costs by thirty percent, thanks to the deployment of a converged voice and data network from Cisco Systems.

Cisco's solution converged the company’s voice and data networks into one, ensuring more efficient use of available bandwidth. The networking solution took six weeks to deploy, including testing and evaluation and the project was completed in April 2002.

Cisco's solution for Thomas Cook included its IP Telephony suite of products, AVVID architecture and Catalyst 2900 switches, Cisco 1720 routers and Cisco PIX Firewalls. Thomas Cook and Cisco are now investigating future projects including new IP telephony applications.
