Lebanese Information Minister Ghazi Aridi revealed this week that Tele-Liban (TL), the state-run television station, which is currently losing $33 million annually, will lay-off its 523 employees and cease operations for a period of three months.
Employees are supposed to be paid indemnities worth $33 million as previously specified in the 1989 collective bargaining contract.
Ministry sources said that Tele-Liban would reopen once internal reforms are implemented, and added that 1,200 employees at the National News Agency would be transferred to the Civil Service Council as the first step in a restructuring. — (Banque du Liban et d'Outre-Mer Sal)
