The Center for Career Guidance and Planning (CCGP) of National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) recently launched the ‘Education Business Link’ project, a major initiative in the UAE to bridge the gap between the education and business sectors in the country.
The Education Business Link project is a joint effort between CCGP, the UAE Ministry of Education and Youth and the corporate sector. The project aims at providing students from select secondary schools in the UAE, with a better understanding and awareness of how their learning can be transformed in to practical day-to-day work skills
This Education Business Link project comprises of activities that provide an understanding on various industries and job functions, an overview on the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector, a session on work placement and a business game.
“The rapidly changing business environment in the UAE has created a need to familiarize school students with the latest developments taking place in the industry. This will help the students in making the right choices with regard to their higher education and career path. The Education Business Link project has been designed keeping in mind the specific requirements of students and the prevailing job market trends,” said Saif Ibrahim Al Noaimi Director for the Center of Career Guidance and Planning, Tanmia.
“During the Education Business Link project, the focus will mainly be to provide awareness of key sectors such as banking, finance, nursing, healthcare and the media. We are confident about the success of this project especially with the support and cooperation of the corporate sector, and we look forward to increasing the number of schools involved in this project,” he added.
The project, which is currently in its pilot phase, will select students from the Mohammed bin Rashid Secondary School and the Amina bint Wahb School in Dubai, and the Al Ghubaiba Secondary School and Al-Arooba Secondary School in Sharjah, to participate in the Education Business Link project activities.
The findings from the pilot phase will be analyzed thoroughly before broadening the scope of the project to cover more schools in the coming year. The Education Business Link project is backed by several key departments and organisations from the private and public sectors, such as the Department of Health and Medical Services in Dubai (DOHMS), Department of Nursing at the University of Sharjah, Barclays Bank, Citibank, Arjmst Jewellery for Azza Ak Qubaissi, Higher Colleges of Technology (Dubai Women's College and Dubai Men's College) and the Emirates Group.
The vision of the Center for Career Guidance and Planning revolves around development and planning of career routes at the national level, in coordination with other relevant institutions. The Center supports career guidance activities undertaken by Tanmia local offices, in coordination with the Employment and Skills Development Centre.
