Tajikistan’s Dushanbe municipality decided to purchase 300 buses from Iran, in addition to 150 electric buses from Russia. Trade ties between the former-Soviet republic and the Islamic Republic totaled $40 million in the year 2001.
Unlike other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member who switched to Mercedes, Volvo or Scania buses since 1990, the cash-strapped Tajikistan continues to use old shattered Ikarus buses inherited from the Soviet Union. Any new buses used for public transport are humanitarian aid granted by China, Russia or the European Union (EU). — (menareport.com)
