Syria to import 1 million PCs

Syria's Minister of Communication and Technology has recently announced a plan to import 1 million personal computers as well as provide 1 million Internet subscriptions to the Syria society.

 

In a press conference at the end of "Sham Expo 2006 for Technology of Information and Data," minister Amrou Salem said “ the ministry is studying the importation of one million personal computers and the supply of one million internet subscriptions as a wide band on parallel, in a bid to generalize the internet network in the Syrian society and to boost it by some electronic government services to increase the investment of possessing the computer by Syrians.”

 

He noted the ministry is taking into consideration all issues to boost the Syrian infrastructure in sector of communication and data technologies weather they are technical, legal or financial, SANA reported.

 

Amrou said problems of the fixed phones in Syria will be over by the end of next year, promising to introduce big cuts on foreign calls prices as he promised to make similar cuts on cell phones during the upcoming weeks.
