A joint committee has been set up by the Sudanese and Ethiopian governments with the aim of accelerating proposed connection of the two countries’ electric grids.
According to Sayed Ahmed Mohammed , the director of planning and projects at the Sudanese national corporation for electricity, the committee's first meeting would be held in Addis Ababa next month.
Mohammed said the $45 million would enable Sudan to benefit from Ethiopia's surplus electric power. He added that a survey showed that the shortest link between the two grids would be 22 km.
Sudan currently produces 400 megawatt per hour or only 15 percent of its power needs. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
