Sudan and Kuwait are set to resume flights between their capitals, suspended since Iraq's 1990 invasion of the Gulf emirate which Sudan was accused of backing, the official SUNA news agency reported Sunday, September 9.
Sudan Airways and Kuwait Airways will resume flights in accordance with schedules to be set in the coming days, aviation undersecretary Ahmed Ismail Zumrawe told Sudan's SUNA.
Relations between the two countries began to move towards normalization only about two years ago after a diplomatic freeze that followed the 1990-91 Gulf crisis, during which Kuwait accused Sudan of supporting Iraq's invasion of the emirate.
Diplomatic representation has since been restored to the ambassadorial level. Kuwait invested significantly in Sudan before the Gulf crisis. — (AFP, Khartoum)
