ALBAWABA – Maersk, the Danish shipping and logistics company involved in shipping, port operations, supply chain management, and warehousing, announced that Spain denied one of its container ships to enter the Spanish port of Algeciras.
Maersk ship denied from entering Spain
Maersk stated that the ship “Denver” did not carry Israeli weapons as it was claimed after Enrique Santiago, a Spanish left-wing coalition deputy, said that allowing the ship to enter would violate the Spanish government's agreement.
Maersk commented: “The cargo to be transshipped through the port does not include any military weapons or ammunition. It is our understanding that Spain has in its discretion changed its criteria and is now rejecting vessels that carry anything military-related going to, or from, Israel, notwithstanding such cargo being legal.”

It is worth mentioning that last spring, Spain and Norway announced their recognition of the state of Palestine and also refused entry to ships carrying weapons to Israel through their ports.
“To gain clarity for future operations, we have consulted the Spanish authorities to understand why entry was denied for cargo no different than previous shipments that have routinely been transshipped through this port without incident,” Maersk added.
Additionally, Spain stopped selling arms and weapons to Israel and condemned the attack on the Gaza strip since it began.
As a result, Denver, Maersk’s ship diverted to Tangier and headed to Oman, according to VesselFinder website.
