Agroorgánicos Mediterráneo (Agromed), a Spanish manufacturer of agricultural farm products, is planning to establish a plant in Syria that will produce organic fertilizers and compost, according to the Syria Report
The Granada-based company is also looking into the possibility of setting up a pharmaceutical production unit in Syria, Agromed Managing Director Pablo Olarte Encabo disclosed.
Syria’s abundant phosphate reserves allowed for the development of a local fertilizer manufacturing industry, centered at Homs. Two plants produce nitrogenous fertilizers, and the third produces phosphate fertilizer.
Another 500,000-ton-per-year triple-super-phosphate plant is being constructed near Palmyra by Bechtel and Makad International. Plans for further expansion in fertilizer production include a 450,000-ton-per-year nitrogenous complex near the northeastern town of Hasaka, which would utilize gas from the Omar field. — (menareport.com)
