Some 40% of Palestinian economic establishments face worse situation

Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said that Israeli restrections on the occupied territories have been causing deterioration in the economic situation. 

 

According to a survey on the "Perception of the Owners/Managers of the Economic Establishments Towards the Economic Conditions, May 2004," the the target group (owners/managers of the economic establishments) reported that they face major problems in their work as a result of the Israeli measures, PCBS said in a press release issued Saturday. 

 

24.4% of the target group said that they face problems in obtaining raw materials and inputs. 23.3% have problems relating to the ability of laboures to reach place of work, while 18.7% in shipping goods and marketing, the PCBS said. 

 

In addition, 14.2% of the owners/managers indicated that they were unable to operate regulary because of curefew, while 36.1% were suffering from financial problems, and 37.9% from other problems, according to the PCBS press release. 

 

39.9% of the owners/managers of the economic establishments in the occupied territories reported that their current economic situation is worse compared with last month (37.8% in West Bank and 44.6% in Gaza Strip), compared to 18.5%, who reported better situation (24.8% in West Bank and 3.9% in Gaza strip).
