What was once a fast-paced billion-dollar market is now going down the drain with NFTs such as Justin Bieber's Bored Ape losing 95% of its value.
For those who are not familiar with NFTs, they are a series of similar-looking images drawn by digital artists but instead of selling them for real money, they are sold using cryptocurrency such as Ethereum. They can't be copied or changed for legal purposes in case of theft or fraud.
It was born in the desire to make cryptocurrency more than just a currency but something people could own digitally, hence the series of artworks.
The sector first gained traction between 2018 and 2021 according to Verdict UK and at its peak, the market saw a 60-fold growth.
It was mostly prompted by rich people, celebrities, and artists who all shared the same goal of making bank in a short amount of time and that's why NFTs didn't last long but knowing The Simpsons, could NFTs be making a comeback in the future?
