Munich’s Tourism Research Institute recently surveyed that seven million Germans are planning to visit Turkey over the course of 2002. Last year only three million German’s visited the Republic, reported Anatolia.
According to Oger Tours Chariman Vural Oger, the number of German tourists received in the Aegean region increased by 40 percent last year and could further increase with Formula-one car races are coming to the region.
Some 675,000 tourists visited Turkey during the month of March. Approximately 59 percent of the visitors came from member states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), a 21 percent increase compared to the same period last year, reported Gumhuriyet. Travelers from eastern Mediterranean countries increased by 27 percent compared to 2001 figures. — (menareport.com)
