Oak View Child and Adolescent Mental Health Hospital in Kent are delighted to announce the following senior management appointments. These key appointments are in preparation for trebling the number of beds and a significant expansion of services over the next 12-24 months.
These appointments will ensure that the Hospital is led by highly qualified, professional and experienced clinicians and managers who will provide care of the highest standard to young people with mental health problems, and leadership to the staff, as well as innovation in service development.
Yvonne Gosset – Director, Danshell Medical
Having successfully managed Oak View Hospital for the last year, following Oak View’s acquisition by Danshell Medical, Yvonne has been promoted to become a Director of the main hospital Board. Her responsibilities will include overseeing the unit's continuing governance and development, and Yvonne will be applying her undoubted service development skills within the wider healthcare interests of Danshell Medical, the hospital's holding company. Yvonne will be continuing her ongoing involvement in Oak View, particularly on compliance matters in light of her years as a senior manager within CQC, as Oak View embarks on the trebling of capacity and the broadening of the young adolescent services it offers PCTs and Commissioners around the country.
Julia Howe – Executive Director, Oak View Hospital
Julia joins Oak View Hospital as Executive Director, from Priory Ticehurst where Julia was Clinical Services Manager with day to day operational responsibility for 63 beds. Julia is a highly respected Registered Mental Nurse and has extensive experience in successfully operating Child and Adolescent mental health services to the highest standards and in developing new innovative services. Julia is highly professional and able to work at both clinical and operational level. She is passionate, enthusiastic, and self-motivated with an inspiring attitude to adolescent mental healthcare. Julia has previous experience of running highly respected services for young people and has been responsible for the successful development and opening of an Adolescent High Dependency Unit. In conjunction with this, developed services and partnership working with residential schools for young people with highly specialist needs. Further experience includes opening an inpatient Learning Disability Service, Complex Trauma and Transitional Living services.
Dr Paul Bain – Medical Director, Oak View Hospital
Dr Bain is an experienced, fully trained and qualified Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist. He insists on openness to different therapeutic frameworks while fully accommodating evidence based practice. Dr Bain has gathered experience in the field of psychiatry through working and training in a number of European countries and the USA as well as of course the NHS and Independent Sector. It is core to Dr Bain’s care that the young person’s motivation and engagement are constantly monitored and enhanced as he believes that these components form powerful factors towards recovery and are so often overlooked.
Dr Paul Bester – Consultant Lead for Forensic Service Development
Dr Bester is qualified as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Forensic Psychiatrist, and is registered as a specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry. He has extensive experience of the assessment of risk and danger and the management of mentally disordered offenders in a variety of legal and medical contexts. Heli Sarin-Yates – Lead Nurse
Heli joined Oak View Hospital as a Staff Nurse in 2004, became Practice Development Nurse in 2007, and has now been promoted to Lead Nurse. Heli is a qualified DBT therapist and will supervise and lead the nursing team to maintain and build on the excellent patient-centred care, and to develop our services together with Julia.
Jim Watkins – Family Therapist and Social Worker
Jim joined Oak View Hospital in December 2010 as Family Therapist, from Priory Ticehurst and has many years’ experience of working within open, secure and forensic adolescent inpatient units, such as Snowsfield Unit, Bill Yule Unit and the Coburn Unit. He has a special interest in “Looked After” young people that stems from his initial training as a social worker.
Oak View Hospital is an 18-bedded child and adolescent mental health hospital in Kent, providing an assessment and treatment service for young people suffering from mental illness and/or learning disability/developmental disorder, aged 12 to 18 years. Services currently offered are PICU/Secure – where the bed rate includes 1-1 observations if required for the first 30 days of admission; and Acute Care. There is also a separate Step Down rehabilitation bungalow in the grounds of the Hospital. There are no extra fees for out of hours admissions. The comprehensive multi-disciplinary team includes medical, nursing, psychology, DBT, CBT, family therapy, occupational therapy, social work and education.
Admissions are accepted under Part II (civil) and part III (criminal) of the Mental Health Act, and can be facilitated at any time 24/7. Young people who are Informal can also be admitted. Assistance with arranging suitable transport is also offered.
