Senior sources in Senegal reported that the Government of Dakar decided to suspend negotiations with a Moroccan-French Consortium to privatize the Senegal Electricity Company (Senelik), reported Al-Hayat . The consortium, which consists of the French Vevendi Company and the Moroccan National Electricity Office, was expected to privatize the Senegal Electricity Company, as of the beginning of 2001. The same sources added that the sides have not reached a final agreement regarding the value of the deal. While the Senegali company is demanding a single payment of 95 million euros ($82 million), the consortium suggests paying 63 million euros. — (menareport.com)
