Social media website and smartphone applications have entered the field of marketing at the expense of traditional means.

Advertising in the Kingdom is no longer confined to the marketing and advertising sector. Many famous users on the application Snapchat are making lots of money using social media and smart phone applications through digital marketing, according to a report in Al-Watan.

Saudi Snapchat stars are entering the world of “marketing with commission,” to make financial gains after a number of advertising companies changed their working policies focusing on the young people to market their products in return for a specific commission agreed for each sale.

Saud Al-Mane, one of the famous stars, said: “Through a contract between the marketers and users of the application Snapchat, the user markets the item through their account that the marketing agency is linked to in exchange for a financial commission calculated technically on every sale made on the way.”

She added: “This marketing method is useful to both parties, especially the user, because it is a great way to invest time on social media generating profits without complicated obligations”.

High number of views

Media and advertising expert Loai Al-Sadi said that the advantages of this type of marketing the high percentage of views which go beyond traditional means. He attributed this new method trending among advertising agencies to the decline in general advertising in the Saudi market and the large reduction many companies did to their advertising spending on traditional marketing methods.

• The marketer creates a link of the commodity on the Internet
• Snapchat user promotes the item using the link called “Referral Link”
• The marketer monitors the sale process through the link
• Percentage of commission is determined by the marketer of the commodity
• Commission on every sale is transferred to the user’s account
