ALBAWABA – Samsung is reportedly planning to reinvent it’s Bixby digital assistant, according to a CNBC interview with Won-joon Choi, executive vice president at Samsung’s mobile division, as the company looks to latest advancement in generative AI tech to make Bixby smarter.
Launched in early 2017, Bixby took the place of the S Voice assistant as the main digital and voice assistant, similar to Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri, in Samsung Galaxy S8 line-up and following releases, later extended to be supported on TVs and Smart home devices with the release of Bixby 2.0 and 3.0 in late 2017 and early 2021 respectively.

“With the emergence of generative AI and LLM [Large Language Model] technology, I believe that we have to redefine the role of the Bixby, so that Bixby could be equipped with generative AI and become more smarter in the future,” Choi said in the interview.
The executive added that the addition of LLMs into Bixby would “enable a more natural conversation and to work out an interface that supports the Samsung products in our ecosystem.”
While no more information or a potential launch date for the revamped Bixby was revealed by Samsung, Choi noted that the tech giant is “working so hard” to deliver the upgraded digital assistant.
