ALBAWABA – After teasing their new Galaxy Ring earlier in their Unpacked event, Samsung has finally removed the tarp from their highly anticipated entry to a new smart wearable category during Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, with a load of health and sleep tracking capabilities.

While detailed information about the Galaxy Ring’s specs has not been revealed, Samsung’s mobile digital health chief Hon Pak spoke in a keynote about what to expect from the device, it will be connected with the Samsung Health app to track sleep patterns, blood oxygen levels, and heart rate alerts as the user sleeps, allowing to keep an eye out for any signs of sleep apnea.

Pak touches on the ring’s lightweight and comfortable design, as reported by Bloomberg, saying “The ring represents that community of people who want health tracking that is more comfortable and less obtrusive,” adding in an interview that “it’s meeting a need of a specific population of people who want to track and measure, but in a different way.”

Another special feature Samsung is working on for the Galaxy Ring according to Pak is non-invasive continuous glucose and blood pressure monitoring, Pak states that “If [Samsung] can do continuous blood pressure and glucose, [it would be] in a whole different ballgame;” as Apple reported by Bloomberg has also been in the race to develop non-invasive glucose sensors that would allow diabetes patients to not poke their fingers for each test.

ZDNET reports that there are rumours the Samsung Galaxy Ring can detect blood flow and do an ECG to track metrics like blood oxygen levels and the user's heart rate. Connection with Samsung SmartThings and Samsung Pay wireless payments are also believed to be supported with the Galaxy Ring.
Furthermore, the new Samsung Health experience provides prescription reminders and insightful information about possible interactions with foods and other medications a user may be taking.

Despite Pak noting that Samsung still has not reached a confirmed price for the ring, the selling price of the Galaxy Ring is anticipated to fall between $260 and $450 if Samsung decides to enter the market and challenge other smart rings like the Oura Ring, which currently holds the biggest market share in the Smart Ring field.

As for the release date, it is expected to be available after the upcoming Unpacked event sometime late June, despite no official date from Samsung as of yet.
