ALBAWABA – Roblox, the online video game platform and game creation system, has paid a staggering $740.8 million to developers creating games on the platform in 2023, as reported by Bloomberg, a 19 percent from $623.9 million distributed the year before.
The hit game platform was released in 2006, with developers using the provided tools to create engaging games and earn millions, Roblox rose to a huge success during the COVID-19 Pandemic as children used the platform to communicate with their friends during quarantine, as The Verge reports, more than half of children in the United States are playing Roblox.
The game uses Robux coin, a cryptocurrency for the platform that allows users to purchase items and addons such as cosmetic skins, leading developers to earn $0.0035 for each Robux that is spent on their game, with studios like Gamefam in Los-Angelos raising $25 million to make Roblox games.
According to Bloomberg, about one hundred Roblox games made over $1 million in revenue individually last year, nine of those brought in a minimum of $10 million, with more than 12,000 developers converting Robux coins into actual money, adding that approximately 750 people made over $100,000, while around 3,500 made over $10,000.
Even though players spent less money per person compared to the height of the epidemic, Roblox achieved an unprecedented 68 million average daily active users last year, generating $3.5 billion in bookings. The company's statistics also show that 30% of players' time was devoted to its most popular 10 games.
