In an attempt to promote the use of high-speed Internet access in the country, Qatar Telecom (Qtel) Sunday announced reductions of up to 47 per cent in the monthly fees charged for its Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) service, while launching a new Turbo speed of 512 Kilobytes Per Second.

According to The Peninsula, Qtel Chief Executive Officer Dr. Nasser M. Marafih said, the company will now charge QR200 per month for an ADSL connection that offers access at 256Kbps instead of the earlier fee of QR300 and only QR400 for a line that offers 1Megabye Per Second (Mbps) access as compared to the earlier QR700 per month.

A new access speed of 512 kbps has also been offered by Qtel at a cost of QR300 per month. The ADSL service, offered under the barQ brand by Qtel, also offers subscribers, three e-mail addresses on the qatar.net.qa domain, faster download and upload rates and the facility to connect to the e-mail round-the-clock at no extra fees and, without disturbing the regular telephone line.
