Qatar Petroleum (QP) will not suspend its gas supply to the UAE despite the “force majeure” that exempts Qatar from any commitments, QP’s CEO Saad Sherida Al Kaabi said in a TV interview.

The impact of a gas supply cut to the UAE will have a greater negative effect on Jebel Ali than on Qatar, but QP is staying true to its ethics, not its contracts, Al Kaabi added.

He noted that all GCC countries import from abroad, including Qatar, expecting the demand for natural gas to increase to 50 million tonnes per year by 2030.

Qatar produces 77 million tonnes of gas annually, acquiring a market share of 30 percent globally.

On 5 June, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, and the UAE cut their diplomatic ties with Qatar, after accusing Qatar of supporting terrorism.
