On a Qatar Airways flight from Qatar to London, passengers were able to enjoy what is being called the world’s first in-flight esports competition, launched by Qatar Airways.

The 'Gaming in the Sky' event took place three days ago, as Starlink, the satellite internet constellation operated by Starlink Services, is now providing the fleet with ultra-fast Wi-Fi and internet services for various online activities, including streaming and gaming.

According to the popular airline, passengers were able to enjoy multiple famous games at 35,000 feet in the sky, featuring personalities like Tfue, Castro1021, Lisa Zimouche, Alodia Gosiengfiao, Dantig, SV2, AJ3, Aameghessib, Danny Aarons, Ffearfful, MattHDGamer, and Slater.

Notably, Elon Musk, the well-known American businessman who owns X and Starlink, posted a video of Turner Tenney (Tfue), an American online streamer, playing Fortnite during the flight.

Notably, two teams—Team Burgundy Oryx and Team Grey Aviators—enjoyed the esports competition, while Starlink’s fast, low-latency internet service ensured a smooth experience for all participants.

Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, stated: “At Qatar Airways, we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the sky to deliver an in-flight experience that captures the imagination and makes you feel right at home. This competition represents a bold step into the future of passenger engagement and comfort when flying with Qatar Airways.”
