Nine out of 14 teams from the University of Dubai (UD) placed in the top 10 percent in a recent business simulation put on by Capsim. 2,439 of some of the best schools in the world participated in the 2-month business simulation and one of the UD teams placed in top 2 percent.

The University of Notre Dame, California State University, the American University of Beirut and Manitoba University are some of the schools that participated in the simulation. The business simulation known as “Capstone” teaches strategy, competitive analysis, finance, cross-functional alignment, and the selection of tactics to build a successful and focused company.

Participants in Capstone are challenged to turn around a poor-performing, $100-million company. Each week-long round is equivalent to one simulated year in the company’s life and the participants are given 2 months to make the company successful in a simulated 8-year period. Participants make decisions in research and development, production, marketing and finance to improve the company. UD students participated in the simulation as part of the university’s Strategic Management course.
