Toyota Hilux 2012 combines performance with comfort

The exciting Toyota Hilux 2012 was revealed for the first time in Saudi Arabia at a brilliant launch event held on Jeddah’s Corniche, attended by invited guests and senior management officials from Abdul Latif Jameel (ALJ) including Mr. Adel Ezzat, Director of Integrated Communication, Mr. Raad Alsaady, Managing Director for Sales and Dealership Operation; Director Commercial Vehicles Mr. Mohammed Ali Vaid; and Senior General Manager Product Planning Mr. Essam Nawar.  

Following the official launch, a Hilux 2012 caravan will tour the Kingdom making a pit stop in 16 cities to give the public the chance to test drive and experience the new Hilux 2012. The Hilux caravan will visit Makkah, Abha, Khamis Mushait, Riyadh, Khobar and Buraidah, to mention just a few of the stops before the tour ends in Ha’il.

“Since its introduction in 1968, the Hilux has been the trendsetter among the one-ton pickups and has been continuously updated over the years with new auto industry technolgies and in keeping with people’s evolving needs,” said Raad Alsaady, Managing Director for Sales and Dealership Operation at ALJ.

“Long considered a work-use vehicle, the Hillux is nowadays used more and more as a multi-purpose car. In recognition of this trend Toyota has introduced a new design that balances comfort with performance to redefine the style of the world’s best selling pickup. 

“In addtion to furher improving the renowned quality, durability and reliabilty of the Hilux, the redesigned interior features a new upper dashboard design in which a horizontal centre instrument cluster reinforces the breadth and roominess of the cabin. It incorporates Toyota Touch, a 6.1", full colour, touch screen multimedia unit.” 

The front of the Hilux 2012 is entirely redesigned from the A pillar forwards, with a new bonnet, radiator grille, headlamps and front bumper. The vehicle profile is further enhanced by newly designed front and rear wings, redesigned 15" and 17" steel and alloy wheels, and new door mirrors. 

A unique combination of advanced Toyota technologies contributes to the renowned robust strength of the Hilux and assures that the power can easily handle challenging landscape and conditions. 

The Hilux single and double cab is available in both 4x2 and 4x4 options. Further, the double cab 2WD and 4WD is now available with automatic transmission. 

Hilux is big on safety as well. In addition to Hilux's tough and robust build, there is also. a range of active and passive safety features that come as standard, with the body offering a high level of safety for a vehicle in its class. 

The Toyota impact absorbing body structure with the crumple zone cabin helps to protect occupants by minimizing deformation of the passenger compartment. The chassis has been subjected to exhaustive simulation resulting in lighter weight with excellent torsion rigidity for precise handling. 

Other safety features include side impact door beams, protective seatbelts with modified components and energy absorbing steering column.
