A delegation from Tamkeen led by Tamkeen Chief Executive Mr. Mahmood Al-Kooheji recently visited senior representatives from the College of Health Sciences (CHS) to discuss the accomplishments and achievements of the Tamkeen-CHS partnership. The visit comes as part of Tamkeen's continuous cooperation with leading private sector institutions to execute its initiatives aimed at developing the private sector and empowering Bahraini individuals.

After touring the CHS campus' facilities and meeting with students, Tamkeen's senior management attended a presentation delivered by the Dean of CHS, Dr. Aneesa Al-Sindi.

Shedding light on the success of the College's various academic programmes to date, Dr. Al-Sindi highlighted the steady progress of the programmes and the important role they have played in helping Bahrainis advance in their professional healthcare careers. More than 400 Bahrainis have benefited from these programmes to date.

Commenting on the visit, Mr. Mahmood Al Kooheji, Chief Executive of Tamkeen, said: "As one of the key sectors identified in our studies for human capital development initiatives, nurturing and helping develop the healthcare sector through the provision of superior training is a key focus of ours. Forming strategic partnerships which create value-added employment opportunities for Bahrainis helps achieve our goal of empowering Bahrainis and meeting the requirements of the labour market."

Dr. Anisa Al-Sindi, the Dean of CHS, commented: "The CHS has a long record and history of educating nurses and allied health professionals. Our mission is to train and graduate high caliber healthcare professionals in adequate numbers to meet the growing demands of the healthcare sector in Bahrain. We do believe that the recent initiative of moving the College to become a part of the University of Bahrain will positively impact the CHS capabilities to meet the demands and challenges of the future.

"The CHS -Tamkeen partnership has been a win-win experience that has greatly enhanced the capabilities of the college to empower more Bahraini students to qualify and take up careers in the healthcare sector. It has also given a boost to educational infrastructure development at the college, and thereby helped augment the quality of instruction and allied services," she concluded.

Since its establishment in September 2006, the partnership saw the creation of 6 different programmes benefiting 850 Bahrainis. The programmes include training in healthcare assistance, nursing, and other healthcare specialties.

The programmes offered include specialized nursing programs, internationally recognized basic and advanced life support courses, and a range of degrees specializing in pharmacy, dental hygiene, and public health amongst others.

In addition, CHS also runs an Educational Development Centre (EDC) which offers courses in English language, medical library, and teaching methods among others. Upon the successful completion of the programmes, students receive professional qualifications which are internationally recognised in the healthcare field.

The programmes specialise in the training of healthcare professionals with the aim of creating employment opportunities for Bahrainis and enabling them to further their skills and advance their careers. Future projects include developing the college's testing centre, renovating classrooms, and upgrading the nursing skills lab to name a few.

Tamkeen's senior management will conduct a number of similar visits to its various partners and service providers during the coming months.
