Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone (RAK FTZ) – one of the fastest-growing and most cost-effective free trade zones in the UAE – today announced that RAK FTZ CEO Oussama El Omari will be a panel speaker at the Global Special Economic Zones (SEZs) summit, which will take place in Malaysia next week.

As part of RAK FTZ participation in the event, El Omari will be speaking at the panel discussion on ‘Importance of connectivity and accessibility as a critical success factor and a catalyst for the economic growth of Special Economic Zones’ at the summit on 20 March 2012. The two-day summit will be held from March 19 to 20 at The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a post-summit workshop on 21 March.

The panel discussion will also involve Alexander Lipatov, Project Leader in Strategy and Development Department, Ust-Luga Company, Russian Federation, A. S. M. Abdul Quium, Economic Affairs Officer - Transport Division, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP), and Tonny Yeap, Head of Special Project and Technology Division, Land Public Transport Commission, Malaysia.

The discussion will focus on enhancing ‘connectivity’ internally, nationally and internationally as also building the connectivity to other cities, ports, airports, industrial areas, urban areas and tourism centres. It will also discuss the importance of the transport infrastructure to ensure better accessibility to SEZ facilities.

Talking about RAK FTZ’s participation in the top industry event, El Omari said: “Our participation in the Global SEZs summit reinforces our growing reputation as one of the leading free zones in the region. Personally, I am looking forward to this unique networking opportunity, which will bring together, from over 45 countries, private and public free zones, industry professionals directly responsible for their SEZ projects.”

Highlighting the importance of the topic of the panel discussion, El Omari said: “One of the parameters that characterise a good free trade zone is its location, which makes RAK FTZ truly strategic. Apart from offering the location advantage to all our business partners, we offer a unique gateway to the entire Middle East as a hub of business, developing RAK and the UAE as a successful centre for trade and investment.”

Over the last 11 years, RAK FTZ has successfully achieved global brand recognition as a premium free trade zone and investment hub. With the optimistic plans to assist and encourage entrepreneurs, the multi-award winning RAK FTZ continues to live up to its reputation as the ‘Home of Business’ in the Middle East.
