HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of the State of Qatar, recently presented Qatar Foundation (QF) with two awards in recognition of its sustainable development efforts.

The Tarsheed award scheme is part of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation’s (Kahramaa) National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency. The initiative celebrates exceptional companies and institutions in Qatar who prioritise the responsible consumption of water and electricity in an effort to preserve and enhance the country’s natural resources.

As a reflection of this commitment, Qatar Foundation was awarded ‘Best Renewable Energy Initiative’ for its use of solar panels in Education City, and ‘Best Sustainable Development’ for its environmentally-friendly student housing complex which, upon completion, boasted the largest collection of LEED Platinum certified buildings in the world.

Mr Mohammed Al Naimi, Chief Operations Officer at Qatar Foundation, commented: “We are very proud to receive these awards. They recognise QF’s continuous efforts in conserving natural resources and protecting the local environment, and our aim of reducing our organisational and overall national carbon footprint.”

“Since our establishment, QF has highlighted the importance of protecting the local environment and our precious national resources. By creating and following innovative policies, QF is helping to conserve the use of water and power in order to build a sustainable society, which is in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030,” he added.

Qatar Foundation is dedicated to sustainable development and, over the years, has received numerous awards for its astute environmental awareness. Recently, QF was awarded  ‘Residential Project of the Year’ and ‘Building Project of the Year’ at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects.
